WALTZ

The doors to the town hall slammed tightly shut behind Waltz as his brisk steps echoed through the almost empty hall sparse with the chiefs of troops of Hermitville. There was Goyle the minion who was over all the air troops; Brice the golem, Trumbo the barbarian and Jumbo the archer—the triad chiefs over the ground troops—that excluded the separate units of witches and skelts under Jez; and wizards under Alfred.

Waltz had called for an emergency meeting concerning the recent developments that confirmed his worries of the Red Baron king now protecting Gorgy the wizard—his scapegoat—one he desperately needed to placate the masses of Hermitville with.

Since the survivals of the raid returned with the body of King Hermit, events were being tossed faster and harder by forces beyond his control that he could hardly juggle. He had to evolve with the events before he lost his footing on matters. He was now the chief (consul) leader of Hermitville with the attache of “interim”—because the court and chiefs expected King Hermit to awake from stasis—something laughable if only they knew...He was chief (consul) leader of Hermitville for life—unofficially.

Though there were already worries surfacing about the unusually long healing period of the in-stasis King Hermit, Waltz was quick to blame it on the recent leveling-up of the king.

The court stood when Waltz took his seat at the head of the table. He took a second to take in the reverence before bidding the chiefs back on their seats.

“We have a crisis in our hands,” Waltz broke. “Gorgy the wizard is proving to be too slimy of a catch. There are reasons to believe he's found sanctuary with King Baron, who is to become a member of the Gregarious Eight clan. I suggest we change tactics...a show of force to stop this from happening, because if the intelligence we are getting is true, Gorgy will become a colossal problem for us.”

Jez seconded the motion. “He needs to be brought to justice for treason."

“We mustn't show weakness in this time of crisis,” another chief said.

“How about the king's recovery?” someone had to ask. That someone being the chief of wizards, Alfred who had been visibly uneasy as his every speech seemed to favor distancing himself from his recently disgraced comrade, Gorgy.

“Still recovering, Alfred,” Waltz said curtly.

“I ask because before I was appointed by King Hermit as chief of wizards, Gorgy was working on a top-secret spell project. It was the reason he was deposed as chief to my favor. This was prior to your summoning here, warden,” Alfred added.

“And what spell project was this?”

“It wasn't official, but I was close with Gorgy at the time as his subordinate...and he told me the spell was the mother of all spell, an end to immortality. He often complained of limited resources to pursue the project. At the time, it sounded backward and impossible...I suppose if he successfully came up with the spell after his deposition, the question becomes: will a disgruntled official use such a spell against his king?”

“A possible end to immortality will be perpetual stasis,” Goyle blurted.
